Policy by Murray is delighted to be working with Energy UK to seek a passionate and skilled leader to head its Analysis team.
Energy UK is the leading energy trade association at the forefront of the energy transition, representing the UK's energy sector during a time of transformation and growth.
Driving impactful research and shaping energy policy conversations, the Senior Analyst, or Head of Analysis (title dependent on experience) will sit at the intersection of policy, communications, and public affairs, producing high-quality analysis and compelling narratives to make Energy UK's advocacy credible and influential.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead High-Impact Analysis: Develop and oversee original analysis and modelling that communicates complex energy issues in clear, meaningful ways for the public and key stakeholders.
- Build Narratives: Collaborate with policy experts to frame Energy UK's positions and create data-driven arguments that support them. Disseminate findings through high-profile publications, press releases, data visualisations, blogs, and videos.
- Data Curation: Collate and present relevant data in an accessible and engaging format for internal and external audiences.
- Collaborate Externally: Commission and manage work from external partners, such as consultancies and polling agencies, to deliver deeper insights into critical questions.
- Team Leadership: Manage and mentor the Research and Analysis Executive, ensuring seamless collaboration and high-quality outputs across the team.
- Cross-Team Support: Provide analytical support to public affairs, communications, membership, and events teams.
- Member Engagement: Work with Energy UK's members to leverage their data for unique policy insights, while respecting commercial sensitivities and competition law.
About You
We're looking for someone who can lead with minimal oversight, offering technical expertise and thought leadership while also contributing to the public profile of Energy UK.
Experienced required:
- Analytical Expertise: Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain complex data and information, using tools like Excel and other data analysis platforms.
- Strategic Thinking: Strong skills in identifying the "big picture" and shaping narratives that influence policy discussions.
- Leadership: Experience managing people and projects with excellent time management and prioritisation skills.
- Sector Knowledge: A deep understanding of political and economic developments, ideally within the energy sector (or a willingness to rapidly learn).
- Communication Skills: Exceptional ability to present complex issues clearly in written, verbal, and visual formats.
- Team Collaboration: Proven ability to build strong relationships across teams and external stakeholders.
- Alignment with Values: Commitment to Energy UK's values of Integrity, Ambition, Inclusiveness, and Collaboration.
Please note: for the Head of Analysis role, we are looking for candidates with significant experience of all or most of these specifications, whereas the Senior Analyst role is an opportunity to further develop if you have more limited experience.
Practical details:
- Salary: Senior Analyst: from £45,854; Head of Analysis: from £54,500 (to be determined when the job title is confirmed and what banding/seniority)
- Contract type: full-time, permanent
- Working type: hybrid, with a min of twice-weekly visits to their London office

We moved ahead with a retained engagement, offering us the most thorough search with a quicker turnaround than other engagement types we had experienced before.
We first contacted Anna in August 2022. We were looking for help to fill a vacant Policy Advisor role within our team. In a tricky market we had been struggling since the start of the year to find the right candidates through our usual channels. Anna took the time to understand the challenges we’d experienced, the support we needed, and nature of the role, before providing a solution.
We moved ahead with a retained engagement, offering us the most thorough search with a quicker turnaround than other engagement types we had experienced before. We have recently placed our Head of Public Affairs using Murray McIntosh, an important hire for us as we are about to enter a period of transition for the organisation so the role is key support to our Director of Policy and Public Affairs. We had engaged another agency but did not see the quality of candidate we needed.
Lauren talked us through the retained search method and explained how this ensures a thorough search, tied to a timeframe. Our PPA Director found this particularly useful, as we could work around his diary in advance.
We met to brief the role and define expectations on both sides, including a check-in point halfway through the market mapping process to ensure a relevant shortlist was coming together. Lauren was insightful, reliable and very transparent throughout and the process proved to be very efficient.

That being said, they only introduce those who have demonstrated their interest and commitment to the role, so our time wasn’t wasted by dropouts and the offer process for our favoured candidate was very straightforward.
