Ready for AMP 8?

Having supported frameworks and providers since AMP 4, we’ve never witnessed such an ambitious cycle set for the industry.

With Ofwat approving double the AMP 8 budget in PR24s and 70% of water engineers looking to leave the sector by 2026, a colossal personnel challenge lies ahead.

Most in demand are those with evidenced experience and the ability to deliver within a scheme on time and in budget. This is where we add value. The videos below detail how our water engineering contractors have supported schemes in AMP 7, and how they will continue to deliver for AMP 8 across: wastewater, P schemes, UV projects, clean water, drainage, storm water, rehabilitation, diversion and rising mains.

At Water by Murray, we understand the difference between clean water and wastewater engineers, considering the specific regulations that govern their work. This sets us apart as the preferred delivery partner for many clients.

Working in partnership with our clients and engineers, we are planning for the future. Our focus extends beyond the present to future-proofing and achieving net zero, accounting for a +20% population growth.

Durleigh WTWs, a complex surface water treatment plant owned by Wessex Water, underwent a complete rebuild after reaching the end of its service life. The three-year construction project, costing around £50M, integrated advanced features, with a treatment capacity of up to 30 MLD. The new Durleigh WTWs is designed to provide clean, safe drinking water for approximately 44,000 people.

At Water by Murray, our understanding and track record has led to the development of long-term partnerships with many of our customers. In 2024, we continue to support water frameworks with their water engineering recruitment needs.

In a world combating population growth, limited space, and stringent regulations, the success of P removal schemes and UV projects is crucial. At Water by Murray, our clients entrust us to excel in both infrastructure and non-infrastructure domains.

By navigating project regulations and engaging engineers committed to technological transformation, we are able to focus on innovative and cost-efficient solutions.

Recent feedback highlights positive outcomes, from achieving net-zero carbon harm to surpassing operational efficiency expectations. Process chemical engineers in P removal projects explore smart mass balancing, optimising additions, removals, and splits. Meanwhile, our civil, mechanical, electrical, and process engineers on UV projects devise solutions to gauge optimal UV usage for algae removal.

Our contractors don't just contribute to responsible water management; they redefine how water is managed, disposed of, or even sold as a byproduct, showcasing innovative solutions from environmental challenges to commissioning.

OFWAT’s upcoming requirements to improve efficiency levels throughout AMP8, provide the industry with the opportunity to fully explore and utilise sector-wide innovations.

Ensuring timely water delivery to customers is our engineers and our client's top priority.

Climate change and UK storms have caused major issues, putting increased importance on diversion, stormwater, and rising mains schemes in AMP 8. Many contractors support clients with utilities diversion, leveraging their proven track record in successful commissioning.

Storage systems face criticism for land use, leaks, and inadequate capacity during floods. Our contractors address these concerns, identifying sustainable solutions. Rehabilitation and rising main schemes have yielded successful outcomes in the past 12 months.

Amidst a growing population, our contractors challenge water diversion methods and processes. They identify connections, routes, and improvements, exploring options like routing through farmland or existing developments. With increasing rainfall and summer hosepipe bans, clients and contractors face pressures to find better water movement solutions.

In AMP 8 we plan to continue matching these experienced engineers to our client's scheme requirements, ensuring the right fit which yields better results.

In AMP 7, our clients found added value in our understanding of the distinctions between clean and wastewater engineers, including biology, process, and regulations. Collaborating with clients and engineers, we plan for the future, focusing on net zero and futureproofing, considering a +20% population growth.

Our engineers in wastewater schemes create construction design management checklists, conduct Design Risk Assessments, contribute to Hazard and Operability (HAZOPS) studies, and prepare specifications for mechanical installation, Chlorine Building installation, and dosing systems using current PIDs.

Collaborating with stakeholders, our contracts ensure design cooperation and support broader project frameworks to meet Industry Minimum Asset standards. Additionally, contractors meet evolving stakeholder expectations by reducing waste and exploring eco-friendly opportunities, such as renewable energy use.
