Mechanical Design Engineer - Water & Wastewater Projects

Are you a Mechanical Design Engineer with experience in water, wastewater or infrastructure projects? Looking to strengthen your technical capability while working across multidisciplinary engineering schemes?

Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of water and wastewater treatment projects, we are seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Fleet-based team.

The Role

You will support the delivery of mechanical designs from feasibility and outline design through to detailed design and construction support. Working alongside senior engineers and project managers, you will help produce compliant, buildable solutions for regulated water industry clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design of mechanical systems for water and wastewater treatment plants, pumping stations, pipelines and associated assets

  • Produce mechanical calculations, equipment schedules, specifications and technical documentation

  • Support the selection and integration of pumps, pipework, valves and rotating equipment

  • Coordinate designs with civil, process and electrical disciplines

  • Contribute to internal and client design reviews

  • Ensure compliance with BS EN standards, WIMES, DSEAR, Eurocodes and relevant UK regulations

  • Attend site visits across the South of England to support surveys, inspections and commissioning activities

  • Contribute to continuous improvement, standard details and best practice within the mechanical team

About You

  • 3-7 years' experience in mechanical design engineering

  • Experience within the water, wastewater or related infrastructure sectors preferred

  • Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline

  • Knowledge of UK water industry standards and health & safety requirements

  • Proficient in AutoCAD and mechanical design tools (Revit or 3D design advantageous)

  • Understanding of pumps, pipework systems and treatment equipment

  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Clear communication skills and ability to work collaboratively

Working towards professional accreditation (e.g. IMechE) would be advantageous.

Location & Working Pattern

Primarily office-based in Fleet, Hampshire, with hybrid working available. Occasional travel to project sites across the South of England will be required.
