Is Political Short-Termism Undermining Progress? Share Your View
We’re gathering views for a new article exploring how short-termism in government is impacting policy, business, and strategy across sectors. Share your perspective with Anna Kelly—there’s no wrong answer.
There’s no denying the political environment—both here in the UK and further afield—is becoming more volatile. With ongoing global conflicts and economic pressures, governments appear increasingly focused on the immediate—quick wins, media-friendly policies, and short-term fixes.
But where does that leave long-term strategy?
There’s a growing sense among the people we speak to that short-termism is starting to dominate policymaking. We’re looking to explore this in more detail through a new article, and we’d like your input.
Anna Kelly, Principal Consultant for Policy by Murray, is gathering insight from professionals across all industries. We want to understand how this trend is playing out on the ground: where it’s creating challenges, where it might be unlocking opportunities, and what it means for people trying to navigate complex systems with shifting goalposts.
We’re looking for a range of perspectives—from the pragmatic to the provocative. All contributions will be treated in confidence, but if you're happy to be quoted, do let us know.
You might consider:
- Is short-termism showing up in your sector? If so, what does that look like in practice?
- Alternatively, are there signs of longer-term thinking—any emerging opportunities or strategies that feel built to last?
- And how is all of this landing internally? What’s the impact on your organisation, your people, your ability to plan?
If you’re open to sharing your thoughts, please do drop Anna a line at annakelly@murraymcintosh.com or call her on 01184 381 007 . The article will be published in May, and we’d welcome your contribution.
