Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Design Manager with a strong background in delivering projects within the UK water industry. This role is ideal for someone who can lead multidisciplinary design teams, manage risk and compliance, and ensure high-quality outputs in a fast-paced, project-focused environment.
The successful candidate will support multiple live and upcoming water projects, working closely with delivery teams, clients, and the wider design supply chain to ensure seamless execution from concept through to construction.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design process across complex infrastructure schemes, ensuring technical accuracy, safety compliance, and delivery to programme.
Coordinate internal engineering teams and external consultants across multiple concurrent projects.
Oversee design programme scheduling and ensure alignment with project milestones and client expectations.
Manage design risks, and regulatory compliance
Control and report on design-stage commercial performance versus budgetary allowances.
Review supplier and subcontractor technical submissions for quality and compliance.
Collaborate with estimators during bid and pre-construction phases to scope and cost design activities.
Allocate resources across projects based on complexity, workload, and discipline needs.
Maintain and develop the Design Risk Register, updating as risks evolve.
Engage with client stakeholders to ensure alignment between design solutions and operational requirements.
Desired Skills
Demonstrable experience in Design & Build delivery within the water industry
Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, or civil engineering disciplines.
Comfortable leading multidisciplinary teams and liaising with a wide range of stakeholders.
Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office applications.
